Frits Corsten

Frits Corsten grew up in Paramaribo Suriname. His father was a government physician but died shortly after Corsten's birth. His mother was a teacher. He is Philomena Essed's uncle.

Corsten developed a passion for books and research at a young age through the extensive collections of his father and grandfather. After the Second World War he studied at the HBS in Het Gooi, the Technical University in Delft and the Political Social Faculty at the University of Amsterdam. He worked for years as a teacher at the Social Academy in Breda and as a consultant for minority affairs at the Krosbe welfare foundation in Rotterdam. After his death, his family donated his huge book collection.
